Thought of the Week

by Michael H. Cox

Hello Little Valley neighbors and friends,

For Come, Follow Me study this week we are continuing to study Alma’s teaching of his son – this time to Corianton. Corianton was struggling to understand certain gospel topics and also had committed a serious sin. Alma tried to help teach his son to understand his questions. There are many things we could discuss in these chapters but for space and time I will focus on just one. Alma 39:11 reads “O my son, how great iniquity ye brought upon the Zoramites; for when they saw your conduct they would not believe in my words.” We are an example to others – both for good and for bad. When we show people through our conduct that we truly believe that Jesus is the Christ and that He is worth emulating then that can help lead people towards Jesus. The oppose it true also. Alma knew first hand about the power of example. In his youth he was actively trying to destroy the church and the faith its members had. After he repented, he spent the rest of his live trying to help bring souls back to Jesus.

I hope all of us this week will spend time studying the scriptures and trying a little harder to be a little more like Jesus. As we sincerely do this others will see it and it can cause life altering changes in their lives. It did for Alma and Corianton and it can for yourself and your friends, associates, and loved ones.
