If you would like to write a “thought of the week” please send it to Michael Cox early in the week or post it in the Gospel Living app. Read the Current Thought of the Week.

Thought of the Week

by Michael H Cox

This week for “Come, Follow Me” we are studying 2 Nephi 3-5, continuing the final messages of father Lehi to his children and grandchildren before he dies. We also see when Laman and Lemuel finally cut themselves off from God and therefore the departure of Nephi “and all those who would go with” him (2 Nephi 5:6) along with the pates of brass and other records.

Nephi records that the Nephites lived “after the manner of happiness”. Nephi didn’t say they lived happy or they had a “happily ever after”. Life is hard, filled with joy and sorrow, happiness and sadness, health and sickness. Being a disciple of Jesus Christ doesn’t mean you are always happy or life will always be easy. Instead they lived in a way to bring eternal joy because they had faith in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Nephi started referring to Him as “my God, and the rock of my salvation” (2 Nephi 4:30).

I hope all of us with strive to have a personal relationship with Jesus and be able to call Him “my God, and the rock of my salvation”. He wants to have that kind of relationship with all of us.
