Thought of the Week
by Michael H. Cox
This week for Come, Follow Me we are studying about Alma the Younger and the sons of King Mosiah. They were the “most vile of sinners” (Mosiah 28:4) because they were actively trying to destroy the church of God. Despite their sinful behavior ultimately they were brought into the light, repented of their sins, and spent the rest of their days teaching about Jesus. The atonement of Christ can reach all of us and help all of us improve to be the women and men that God wants us to be.
There is a parallel between the conversion of Alma the Younger and Saul/Paul. Download “Comparing Conversions Paul and Alma” for a reference chart that compares these two conversions.
Brothers and Sisters I want to you that I know that Jesus is the Messiah. He wants to have a personal relationship with each of us. He wants each of us to be “born of God, changed from [our] carnal and fallen state… becoming His sons and daughters” (Mosiah 27:25). As we increase our faith in Him, we will want to repent of our sins, come closer to Him, and become more like Him. As we do put forth effort, God will magnify our efforts. One of our great Latter-day hymns is I Believe in Christ. Not only do we believe that Jesus is the Christ but He believes in us. He believes that we’ll use our agency to follow Him. He knows that we have infinite potential because we are a Child of God. No other label in our life is more important that that we are a Child of God.
