Thought of the Week
A new feature we are starting is a weekly “thought of the week” that goes along with this weeks “Come, Follow Me”. The plan is to post these a few days ahead of time in the Adults circle of the Gospel Living app and then post them in the bulletin. We’d love to have many different people help with this. If you would like to write a “thought of the week” please send it to Michael Cox early in the week or post it in the Gospel Living app. Read the Current Thought of the Week.

Thought of the Week
by Micheal Cox
This week for Come, Follow Me, we are reading 2 Nephi 20-25, where Nephi is continuing his long quotation from Isaiah. When the resurrected Messiah visits the Nephites, He taught “…that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah. For surely he spake as touching all things concerning my people which are of the house of Israel; therefore it must needs be that he must speak also to the Gentiles. And all things that he spake have been and shall be, even according to the words which he spake. Therefore give heed to my words; write the things which I have told you; and according to the time and the will of the Father they shall go forth unto the Gentiles.” (3 Nephi 23:1-4). When Jesus gives us a commandment we should listen and obey!
A scripture that stood out to me this week was 2 Nephi 25:23 which reads “for we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.” The reason that Nephi, Jacob, and all the other Book of Mormon prophets (and I believe all Biblical and Latter-day prophets) teach and record their teachings is to persuade all of us to have faith in the Lord Jesus the Christ and to repent of our sins (see Articles of Faith 1:4). Nephi reminds us, however, that we are saved after or despite all we that can do. We are not saved from or forgiven of our sins because we repent. Instead, we are saved and forgiven only because of the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jacob taught this in 2 Nephi 10:24 when he said “wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved.”
