Thought of the Week
A new feature we are starting is a weekly “thought of the week” that goes along with this weeks “Come, Follow Me”. The plan is to post these a few days ahead of time in the Adults circle of the Gospel Living app and then post them in the bulletin. We’d love to have many different people help with this. If you would like to write a “thought of the week” please send it to Michael Cox early in the week or post it in the Gospel Living app. Read the Current Thought of the Week.

Thought of the Week
by Michael H. Cox
Happy Mother’s Day to all the women of the Ward. I read this week someone discussing Moses’ 2 mothers. First there was Jochebed, Moses’ birth mother, who gave birth to him and raised him and protected him for 3 months. To quote from the article “Jochebed is an example of a mother who’s hit troubled times—be it financial, worry over children’s spiritual welfare and/or their or her own health, day-to-day struggles, heartbreak, you name it. Jochebed is a mother who has to trust Heavenly Father completely as she tries her best to fulfill her mission as a mother and to raise her children.”
Moses’ second mother was Pharaoh’s daughter, who found Moses and took him home. To again quote from the article “I’d like to say that Pharaoh’s daughter is a woman that, despite not having children of her own, looks beyond herself and has a maternal influence over those who need it.”
All women have an influence on the raising generation. And today we want to take a moment to thank you for those good influences you have. While a moment isn’t enough to truly be appreciative for all the great women in our ward, our neighborhood, and our lives, hopefully each and everyone of you know how important you are to each of us. We love you and are grateful for you.
This week for Come, Follow Me we read Mosiah 7-10. We read about the people of Zeniff & Limhi. Verses that stood out to me were Mosiah 7:18-20. Limhi’s people had been in bondage, with a heavy tax burden, to the Lamanites. When Ammon and those with him arrived in the land, Limhi saw a way that they might be able to get out of bondage. At the end of verse 18 Limhi said “yet I trust there remaineth an effectual struggle to be made”. He then councils the people to “rejoice, and put your trust in God”. He also pointed out that their iniquities is what brought them into bondage.
In our life there will be times when we are in bondage. This bondage could be caused by poverty, physical, emotional, or mental health challenges, a loved ones decision to separate themselves from God, or even our own sins. No matter what is going on, I urge you to “rejoice, and put your trust in God” for He knows the beginning from the end and He will allow a way for us to escape from our bondages. It may not be in the time and way we’d like. We, like the people of Limhi, may have struggle ahead of us to overcome these bondages. Eventually, perhaps not until the millennium, we will escape these bonds and be able to return to our land of promise.
God lives and He loves each of us. As the Proverb states “trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). I want to add my witness to this and I know that we can trust God and I hope we will live our lives so that God can trust us.
