Thought of the Week
A new feature we are starting is a weekly “thought of the week” that goes along with this weeks “Come, Follow Me”. The plan is to post these a few days ahead of time in the Adults circle of the Gospel Living app and then post them in the bulletin. We’d love to have many different people help with this. If you would like to write a “thought of the week” please send it to Michael Cox early in the week or post it in the Gospel Living app. Read the Current Thought of the Week.

Thought of the Week
by Michael H. Cox
Hello Brothers and Sisters,
This week for Come, Follow Me we are reading Mosiah chapters 11-17. In these chapters we are reading about the people of Zeniff / Noah / Limhi and the teaching of Abinadi.
There are 7 major journeys recorded in 17 chapters of Mosiah. Download the “Overview of Journeys in Mosiah 7–24” as an aid in your gospel study.
Some quick historical context.
Lehi left Jerusalem in about 600 BCE. Abinadi teaches about 450 years later, in about 150 BCE. Mormon, who complies & abridges this record, lives about 470 years later, in about 320 CE. King Benjamin taught his great sermon in about 124 BCE, about a 25-years after Abinadi taught and died.
The teaching of Abinadi about Jesus directly influenced one person, Alma. Alma and his posterity would keep the sacred records and guide the church for the next 470 years!
Most of the time we don’t know the influences we have on people. We don’t know of course, but I’m guessing Abinadi didn’t know that his teachings and cries of repentance influenced Alma.
I don’t think I ever put together in my head that Abinadi taught early chronologically speaking than King Benjamin did. King Benjamin taught his great sermon and his influence on that generation and on his son Mosiah. Because of these two great teachers in about the chronological middle of The Book of Mormon generations have been blessed.
How has these teachings affected you? Has there ever a time when something happened that changed the course of your life or the life of someone you knew? I want us to think about the power of one person, one act of kindness, one person going about daily life but making a huge difference to those around them.Brothers and Sisters Jesus is the Messiah. His servants teach about how living on the covenant path established by Jesus brings us joy and happiness. I hope that each of us will recognize the power we can have on others.
