Young Women Service Project
It’s that time of year again and The Young Women are teaming up with Samaritan’s Purse to send Christmas boxes to kids in 3rd world countries. The Young Woman did this service project last year and really enjoyed it so have decided to do it again. Your donations last year really helped us make this service project a success.
If you’re looking for ways to donate this Christmas Season this is a great opportunity. We are asking for donations for shipping the boxes and to help us fill the boxes with gifts for the kids. We have a goal of 50 shoeboxes. If you would like to donate to this cause please Venmo Sabrina Ward with donations.
(The cost of each box is about $25.)
We can’t wait to see where our boxes end up and to share our love of Christ with these kids.
Thanks for your support!

Thought of the Week

by Michael Cox

This week for Come, Follow Me we are studying the Epistle of Paul to the Ephesians. This letter was likely written about 61 AD during Paul’s house arrest in Rome, mentioned in Acts 28:30. Paul had previously spent about 2 to 2 ½ years preaching about Jesus Christ and His atonement in and around Ephesus (Acts 18:19, Acts 19:1-10, Acts 20:31). Paul wrote to the church members to encourage them be united in their faith in Jesus and to love each other. There are many great teachings, both familiar to us and less familiar.

Paul ends his epistle with his well-known metaphor to “put on the whole armor of God” in Ephesians 6:10-18. As you read this first note that Paul didn’t tell us to “put on some of the armor of God” or “put on the comfortable pieces” or “the pieces we like”. He said to put on all the armor of God so that we may be able to stand against the devil and his temptations and schemes, which will let us withstand challenges and “having done all, to stand”. Paul then lists 5 defensive pieces of armor: 1) your loins girt about with truth (more modern translations call it the “belt of truth”) , 2) breastplate of righteousness, 3) feet shod (or covered) with the preparation of the gospel of peace, 4) above all, take the shield of faith, and 5) the helmet of salvation, followed by just one offensive weapon the “sword of the Spirit”, which Paul defines as “the word of God”.

Many great things we could focus in these verses on, however I’ll mention just a couple of them. Paul tells them and us to put on the whole armor of God. He mentions in verse 16 that “above all” have the shield of faith. In battle you keep your shield ahead of you and will help stop many attacks before they ever get to your armor. Your faith, brothers and sisters, will help protect you against many attacks of the adversary. At times of weakness when you may not have you the “whole” armor of God with you can still have your shield of faith. Then, after Paul describes these defensive weapons, he tells us to have one offensive weapon, a short sword which is the word of God. This verse reminds me of Alma 31:5 which reads in part “the preaching of the word had a great tendency to lead the people to do that which was just – yea, it had had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else… therefore Alma thought it was expedient that they should try the virtue of the word of God”.

Protect yourselves with the armor of God, especially with faith, and have the sword of the Spirit/the word of God, and then pray always, for both yourself and all the other believers, which will help us stay on the covenant path back to our Heavenly Father and His Son the Lord Jesus Christ, because of the atonement of Jesus.
