Thought of the Week
by Michael H. Cox
Hello Little Valley Ward family,
This week for Come, Follow Me we are studying 3 Nephi chapters 1-7. After 600-years of waiting in Chapter 1 Jesus was born, although it was across the seas in a distant land. This builds the faith of some, but others don’t believe it. The righteous get more righteous and the wicked get more wicked until the government is completely destroyed and the people divide into tribes. It has been said that we are only 1 generation from apostasy and these chapters we see this. In 3 Nephi 1:30 it reads that they “began to decrease as to their faith and righteousness, because of the wickedness of the rising generation”. What can we do to help the rising generation? We know the basic answers – we need to say prayers, attend church, and study the scriptures together. Is that enough? They, just like we, have their agency. We can’t force them to have a testimony, we can only share and invite. If its not enough just continue to love them. When we mess up, God continues to love us. Sometimes that’s all we can do for them. But in all things remember that we are “disciple[s] of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. [We] have been called of him to declare his word among [the] people, that they might have everlasting life.” (3 Nephi 5:13). As we love those around us and in our own families, continue to declare His word to them as circumstances permit so that when they are ready to hear His message they know where to go to hear it.
