If you would like to write a “thought of the week” please send it to Michael Cox early in the week or post it in the Gospel Living app. Read the Current Thought of the Week.

Thought of the Week
by Michael Cox
Hello Brothers and Sisters,
Like most of you I am very excited for the dedication of the St George Utah Temple. This is the oldest operating Temple of the Church and like all other temples is the House of the Lord.
This week we are reading Revelation 1-5 this week for Come, Follow Me. Revelation is a series of revelations received by the Apostle John on the island of Patmos and was addressed to 7 churches located in Asia Minor. These revelations include council to church members and leaders as well as prophecy of events that had, were, and would happen, from the beginning of time until the second coming of Jesus Christ. While there are many things we could discuss I will only talk about two, both in chapter 3.
First is Revelation 3:14-16. Here the Lord, through the Apostle John, tells the church members in the city of Laodiceans that their works, their deeds, their commitment to Jesus Christ was “neither cold nor hot”. They had one foot on the covenant path and one foot off the covenant path. They were indecisive on what they wanted to do and who’s side they are on – the world or God. The Lord wants them to decide and since they won’t He “spue [them] out of [His] mouth”. Each of us needs to decide today and each day if we are on the side of Jesus or not.
This leads to the second point I want to discuss, which is Revelation 3:20 where the Lord, still speaking to the Laodiceans tells them that He “stand at the door, and knock: if any hear [His] voice, and open the door, [Jesus] will come into him and will sup with him.” Many artists have painted this scene, including this one. If you notice there is no door handle on Jesus’s side of the door. He will knock and we have to invite Him in. Jesus is inviting the saints at Laodicea to let Him be a more important part of their life. He is always there for us, even if we aren’t ready today to decide to be His disciple. He will wait for us to realize we need Him.
I hope we all can see our need for Jesus in our life and invite Him in. When we do that we will be happier, kinder, and more loving to our neighbors, family members, co-workers, and strangers.
Also to help each of us keep remember Jesus during the busy Christmas season – I invite each of consider using this December reading calendar that gives a daily scripture reading about Jesus.
